Whilst the Project Audit and Recovery (PAR) consultants in the main encourage our clients to use appropriate proprietary software, there are occasions when no suitable software is available, despite a global search. On these occasions our consultants have developed bespoke project control packages including the provision of manuals and associated training.

 Example 1)

Problem: - Using the minimum number of resources a client needed to store and retrieve drawings, specifications, technical notes, bid evaluations, calculations, sketches and vendor documents more readily.

Solution:- A document tracking system using ‘intelligent numbering’ was established enabling the user to track any document through its various approval stages to the ‘final as built’.

Example 2)

Problem:- How best control the progress payments made to overseas design contractors/vendors whilst having the minimum number of visits to their offices?

Solution:- By establishing a workable CTR database, that could be ‘locked’ and freely supplied to the design contractor/vendor, such companies were able effectively to control themselves within predetermined limits.

As a result these companies were paid faster as contractual disputes had been virtually eliminated.

Example 3)

Problem:- How can the various manual systems being used on a client’s projects in the 3rd world be integrated so that data can be transferred to the corporate office 3,000kms away.

Solution: - After review of the proprietary software then available and the requirement to emulate the existing system(s) as much as possible, a project controls system was developed and rolled out, which was able to handle the company’s cost control and timesheet systems for labour and plant. As well as all purchase orders, change orders, engineering monitoring, progress payment and invoicing, safety statistics and site employee details.

PAR consultants have been involved with the review of existing software in order to improve its capability in the light of new computing developments - An example being the integration of the Shell Expro IMIS system with Open Plan.
